International Co-op

International Co-op is a highly structured educational program for motivated students. It combines learning a second language with major-related coursework and co-op work experience. Students complete the first three co-op semesters in the U.S., followed by two consecutive semesters of co-op abroad (usually in the spring and summer of the fourth year).

The program is offered in countries where German or Japanese is the primary language.

The University of Cincinnati is one of the few universities in the United States that offers such a program. Since the program was established in 1990, many companies and individuals have built a solid foundation to create opportunities for students to explore the global market.

The program starts in the student’s first or second year, so we encourage interested students to contact our office as early as possible.

To be eligible for the International Co-op Program, you must:

• Apply and be accepted into the UC co-op program.
• Apply and be accepted into the International Co-op Program (minimum of two semesters must be completed in the co-op college prior to application).
• Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0.
• Remain on track with coursework in your discipline.
• Complete required ICP language and culture courses. (With careful planning, all ICP courses will count toward College degree requirements.)
• Exhibit appropriate professional behavior in all co-op assignments, both in the US and abroad.
• Comply with the University of Cincinnati Student Code of Conduct and with the Professional Practice Program Standards of Professional Conduct, as specified in the Professional Practice and Experiential Learning Student Handbook.
